Chris Sibley of Sibley Groundworks called Cornwall Ready-Mix Concrete for advice on a project he was worried about. I had to create a slab that could cope with traffic after only a couple of days.
The customer wanted me to replace a short stretch of road surface leading to a retail outlet.
"They could afford to shut down the store so the pour would need to take place after closing on the Saturday and be ready for traffic on the Monday morning".
My advice to Chris was to use a high strength grade of concrete, to include an accelerator and fibre reinforcement. The accelerator would dramatically increase early strength for durability.
Thus enabling access sooner to the road surface. The fibre reinforcement would help prevent plastic shrinkage cracking.
Problem solved and one happy customer.
